I discovered that the last backups of `.org` files in the `~/Org` directory are from somewhere in August.
At the same time, the modifications to `init.el` file in the `~/.emacs.d` directory is backed up correctly.
`~/Org` catalog permission in 755.
`make-backup-files` is set to `t`.
What could be the culprit?

What's the value of `backup-directory-alist`?
mocam6o · 2022-12-28 16:35
`backup-directory-alist` is set to `nil`
I have understood that in this case the backup is saved where the original file comes from!?
In the meantime, I made a completely new file and he made a backup of it (in the same directory).
However, if I make a change in an earlier file, the backup is not made. I've tried killing the buffer and closing emacs. It seems as if Emacs thinks that the same session is always going on.

Hmm... a couple more questions
* There aren't any files with names ending in `~` in the directories you are looking at? Even potentially hidden ones (try `ls -a`)?
* What are the values of `backup-inhibit`, `kept-old-versions`, `delete-old-versions`, `backup-by-copying`?
mocam6o · 2022-12-28 18:07
`backup-inhibited` is set to `nil`
`kept-old-versions` is set to `2`
`delete-old-versions` is set to `nil`
`backup-by-copying` is set to `t` (I recently changed this)
I just discovered that the value that `Ctrl-h v` shows, depends on which buffer is "active" or "current". On some buffers `backup-inhibited` shows:
`Its value is t`
`Local in buffer Computing.org; global value is nil`
And that led me to the culprit, if the file is added to Version Control, its `backup-inhibited` `nil` → `t`. In August I just little experimented with VC.

Thanks for your help !

Ah, good to hear. I was going through my backup settings; literally the next line I have in my config is `(setq vc-make-backup-files t)`, so you've managed to jump ahead!
