Get face variable of LSP breadcrumbs?
o__J_O · 2022-12-26 16:18
*In my post* [*face picker?*](https://www.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/zv41zv/face_picker/) *post, I had two questions. One of which was answered. The other, I'm hoping there's a better alternative than inspecting the code.*
I'm using **LSP breadcrumbs** and I'd like to change the background of the breadcrumbs - see [sample](https://imgur.com/a/6Zmeshg).
Unfortunately, I cannot place point on the line so I cannot use `describe-face`.
Is there a way to get the face variable without inspecting the underlying elisp code?

You could invoke `M-x list-faces-display` and scan down the list to find it.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately `M-x list-faces-displays` over 900 lines of faces. Unfortunately, I can't determine which are affecting the breadcrumbs. My guess is that there's some inheritance influencing it.

`list-faces-display` takes a regex argument and will filter the list to only show matches. So `C-u M-x list-faces-display RET ^lsp RET` might be helpful.
You can also use isearch in that window: you should be able to just jump right to the `lsp-` faces.

u/o__J_O follow this, just replace `^lsp` with `^lsp-headerline`

Unfortunately I don’t think there’s a better solution in this case than inspecting the code.
However, inspecting the code is quite easy. Just search for `defface` and it’ll show you everything you want.

This is probably what you want and took me less than a minute to find

Try `M-x customize-group` `lsp-headerline`

Thank you both however picking any of the scoped variables doesn't provide additional data - see [https://i.imgur.com/KBez4Zf.png](https://i.imgur.com/KBez4Zf.png)
I tried monkeying with \`lsp-headerline-breadcrumb-symbols-face\` but that didn't affect the entire background.

Thank you. You're right, I shouldn't have wussed out at looking at the code. It's well documented.
I'm wondering if my theme is borking things because when I tweaked the variable, it didn't quite work - [https://i.imgur.com/yDLoHT2.png](https://i.imgur.com/yDLoHT2.png)
Thanks again.
\*\*\* Edit \*\*\*
Wait a sec, line 57 is for \*paths\* but more importantly, you have taught me how to \*fish\* ... I'll look at this file carefully.

Unfortunately none of the presented faces affect the background. However, /u/CorysInTheHouse69 cited the source file. I should be able to suss it out from there.
Thank you for responding.
