When I create an `org-mode` file I usually create a title thus:
`#+title: Name of Document`
I follow that with my options and an `org-mode` time stamp, as follows:
`<2022-12-22 Thu>`
I noticed however that there is also a `#+date:` option. Why would I want to use this instead of a simple timestamp, and what would the format need to be?

I guess it depends a little on what you want. I'd say `#+date:` is more semantic for the purpose. And it can be leveraged as "the document's date" by the export backends as well (try both and export to, say, LaTeX or HTML). Personally, even if using a simple timestamp there, I'd use an inactive one, like `[2022-12-22 Thu]`, the document itself is not really a task/todo, so I don't see what the active timestamp would even mean there.

It's because the active timestamp is easier to type :>. But you are right, there appears to be no reason for one here.

But do you type it by hand?! Just `C-c ! RET`. ;-)

It's easy I know, but not as easy as \`C-c .\` I'm ashamed of myself. :\\

Although [the Org manual](https://orgmode.org/manual/Conflicts.html) says that [YASnippet](https://github.com/joaotavora/yasnippet) doesn’t play well, I personally haven’t had any issues. Maybe I’ve just been lucky? But I do have a snippet that uses the `format` command to create an Org inactive timestamp. Just a thought.
