I am checking out Emacs wiki https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/UnitTesting but uncertain whether info is actual. What I expect from framework is to be similar to pytest. And definitely I against writing unit tests in Markdown like in Buttercup as: there is no Lisp completion for such unit tests out of the box and highlighting. By all means maybe there are any plugins fixing this issue with Markdown code blocks but I don't think it's the best option to utilize markdown as a unit test source.

Emacs's built in ert is good enough for most of my usecases. [https://exercism.org/](https://exercism.org/docs/tracks/elisp/tests) has good code kata's and instruction if you are new to using test driven development in emacs.

I faced a similar issue when wanting tests for my todotxt package. I ended up using ERT and found it to be just fine.
Here's the test file, for reference.
