Drastic slowdown in Helm+auctex

guraltsev · 2022-12-21 21:02
Hello everyone, Since around a month I started to have horrible performance with AucTeX + Helm and I have no idea how to debug it. I am on Windows 10 using native Emacs 28.2. After a minute or so of opening a TeX file and enabling AucTeX any helm command slows down to a crawl. Even the standard \`\`\`helm-M-x\`\`\` takes ages to update (approx 2 sec per keypress), typing quickly leads to dropped letters, etc. This happens ONLY with AucTeX. I tried profiling but the profiler does not work as expected. Below is the result of runnning the profiler for 2 minutes! It has 1 sample. This never happened to me. How should I debug this? 1 100% - command-execute 1 100% - funcall-interactively 1 100% - execute-extended-command 1 100% - apply 1 100% - helm-M-x 1 100% - helm-M-x-read-extended-command 1 100% - helm 1 100% - helm 1 100% - helm-internal 1 100% - helm-initialize 1 100% - helm-initial-setup 1 100% - helm-compute-attr-in-sources 1 100% - helm-apply-functions-from-source 1 100% - #<compiled -0x30f0c5606a0125> 1 100% #<compiled -0x1db783c5ea58a9bc> 0 0% - ... 0 0% Automatic GC

You can hit TAB on the compiled functions just like the regular ones, there should be a breakdown with something readable eventually.

Unfortunately, there isn't. I already opened everything with TAB as can be seen from the little \`-\` signs in front of the entries. The last one has nothing...

Oof. And it can't be clicked on?

I experienced the same issue and the same lack of insight from the profile profiler.

Could you open `cmd` in windows, navigate to `c:\pathtoemacs\bin` and run `runemacs --daemon` and see if that helps?
