I run Emacs inside WSL. Where am I?
cerka · 2022-12-21 22:33
(WSL + Emacs) / 2 = Debian
phr46 · 2022-12-21 22:34
How did you guess? I did pick Debian for WSL distro.
benide · 2022-12-21 22:50
Hmm. Where should NixOS go?
NotFromSkane · 2022-12-21 22:54
Between Gentoo and LFS. It's less work than Gentoo, but it's much more poorly documented, so it's harder
InternalImpact2 · 2022-12-21 22:59
Freebsd ?
wblock · 2022-12-21 23:53
Just an approximation. There are higher-ordered terms.
PanamanCreel · 2022-12-22 00:35
Freebsd would be just before Arch, the kernel is binary, you do have to set up the xorg, but after that, it's a simple case of dropping in Emacs, the right package and you have FreeBSD with Exwm!!

\^ Prot before he cut his hair/beard.
citrusmunch · 2022-12-22 05:28
just an application of the OS/2 operator
akho_ · 2022-12-22 06:08
This doesn’t match my experience. Arch is mostly used by children unable to grow a proper beard. Debian leads in the average beard length department.
protesilaos · 2022-12-22 06:48
👀
darudesandstrom · 2022-12-22 08:05
You have angered my beard with your words.
cfx_4188 · 2022-12-22 09:10
Just install xorg, twm installs with it. Call emacs directly from twm. This is pure happiness.

I feel like there are more steamOS users than wsl users now as well
akho_ · 2022-12-22 11:18
That chart is intended to help people choose a platform based on a simple heuristic. If you are already set, it’s of no use to you. You should seek help though, self-harm isn’t healthy.
PanamanCreel · 2022-12-22 13:24
Not needed, Exwm is emacs AS the window manager! :)
Glum-Armadillo4888 · 2022-12-22 15:55
Any example of bad docs?
gtuminauskas · 2022-12-22 20:08
it is just a sockOS probably 🤣😂🤣
paretoOptimalDev · 2022-12-22 22:52
And using Nix-managed emacs to write Haskell professionally... asking for a friend 🥸
lisploli · 2022-12-23 05:53
Gentoo sure is a good match for Emacs. Keeps the computer compiling while the user is configuring, so everyone is happy. 😊
