tl;dr a few small additions to make life easier when using ffmpeg (trim video or extract audio) and creating macOS aliases [https://xenodium.com/emacs-ffmpeg-and-macos-alias-commands](https://xenodium.com/emacs-ffmpeg-and-macos-alias-commands)

outside of convenience, is there a benefit to doing this in emacs vs a shell script or alias? (not trying to be rude, just curious!)

For me, it removes a handful of little but unnecessary steps, recalling is easier (fuzzy search), apply consistently across different scenarios (single vs multiple files), in dired buffer buffer vs current buffer, always async, keep process buffer nearby in stack, etc. Maybe try it, compare to script/alias, and see if it benefits your workflow.
