Macros not working

I haven't used Macros in a while and was trying to get back into them but whenever I run `C-x (` I get the message `Can only start recording in NORMAL or MOTION state.` and I can't find any information online for how to fix that. I tried in a buffer with Rust, Python, Elisp and an Org mode buffer and it threw the error in all of them. I also restarted the Emacs instance and still got the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edit: Ended up being Meow Mode that caused the issue.

Is it because of Evil-mode? Try switching back to normal state. Or just disable evil altogether.

I will try that. I don't have Evil-Mode but I do use Meow.
