Strange nano emacs date picking behaviour - S-arrows not working

wakatara · 2022-12-10 17:27
I've been working on integrating nano into my current setup (which is going nicely). Really like the aesthetic (though it still needs some tweaking). Good use of an hour! One really weird thing I encountered which I can't figure out - I'm using nano-modeline (not sure if tthat's relevant - I am \*not\* using nano-bindings), but whenever I pull up the date picker to insert a date, in my old system, I would abuse S-RightArrow or S-DownArrow to move quickly through the calendars and Return to pick the date. However when I try this with nano's setup, while I get the calendar pop up, a shift Right, Down or Left gets me a \[No window right from the selected window\] etc type message like it's trying to move to another window or buffer rather than move along the datepicker calendar. Strangely, other keys like M-S-Arrow etc seem to work fine. Does anyone know what I've done here or have an idea of what I need to do to restore the default date picking behaviour? (my muscle memory and sanity depend on it).

Probably this [line](https://github.com/rougier/nano-emacs/blob/master/nano-modeline.el#L511) is the culprit. You can also use nano-theme (on ELPA) that is more stable.

Wow! Thanks for replying. The theme is good, but kinda enjoying what you've done with everything all the way down to nano-writer. So, aesthetically and interaction wise, I'm really enjoying it so far (I mean, only massaged it into my files this evening so still trying to puzzle out things like math-preview not showing up etc). I can wait for a fix. Will just have to click on cal dates... =\] thanks for the amazing work. It is really a nice environment. (also ht to this guy's blog post... Thanks and thanks for the link. I really need top update the nano-emacs repository because a lot of packages are now spread over Github on their dedicated repository.

I'll file the calendar S-arrow thing as a boog. ( [https://github.com/rougier/nano-emacs/issues/131](https://github.com/rougier/nano-emacs/issues/131) ) And yes, please do update! I *loveeee* how nice this is making my experience on emacs (and I had a pretty good setup before.). And once again, thanks for this amazing work. It is really great, feels so professional, and a gift to the whole community. I imagine it is a lot of effort so just wanted to say \*\*Thank you\*\*!!

>Probably this > >line > > is the culprit. Is there a way to disable that from my init.el conf in the meantime to return the standard behaviour until fixed? (I imagine there is but my first idea of redefining that function would probs have knock on effects... =\] ).

Maybe something like `(remove-hook 'window-configuration-change-hook 'nano-modeline-update-windows)`
wakatara · 2022-12-12 03:48
Sadly, did not seem to work (or there is some way I need to load it after everything else has been finaiized on the org-mode and nano load.). I had not seen this remove-hook before so will poke round some more. (and again, thanks ever so much for wading in and answering. Really liking nano. Have moved over to it and just tweaking some little things from my perspective. Looking forward to the update and fixes when you have time!)

I'll investigate from your bug report then.
wakatara · 2022-12-12 12:09
Update: this works with all S-arrowkey functions highlighting a date. So, if you are in a TODO Deadline even *without* the mini-calendar popup (ie. just in the region of the org-mode data and try to increment or decrement it via the S-right or S-left etc, you get the same error message. I'll update the bug ticket as well. thanks for looking at it! =]
