I used helm-mini to switch buffers, but my emacs hung with the following message:
`Pinging init.as (American Samoa)`
Not wanting that, I submitted [an issue](https://github.com/emacs-helm/helm/issues/2574) to the good folks at helm who quickly identified the culprit:
`ffap-machine-p`
Over the years, people have [noticed this issue](https://help-gnu-emacs.gnu.narkive.com/Oy7H95Lg/how-do-i-set-a-timeout-for-ffap-machine-p) including as far back as [2014](https://github.com/emacs-helm/helm/issues/648).
Recently, [a fix](https://lists.gnu.org/r/emacs-diffs/2022-07/msg00301.html) is making its way into emacs.
In the mean time, it might make sense to add the following to your init.el in an effort to keep ffap quiet:
```
(setq ffap-machine-p-known 'accept)
```
