Struggling with emacs spellcheck

Gangsir · 2022-11-26 23:04
Trying to figure out why emacs is only partially able to spell check. I have flyspell enabled, and it's using enchant-2 as the spellchecker. It's able to highlight a mispelled word, but when I go to correct it, it doesn't offer possible matches - this means I have to correct it myself, even having to google the correct spelling. Obviously not ideal. Any ideas why it isn't suggesting anything?

I don’t have any experience with flyspell. But I use aspell and https://codeberg.org/ideasman42/emacs-spell-fu with good success.

How are you clicking it? The default for flyspell is middle mouse click (three finger click on a trackpad)

Yep, doing that, and it just pops up a tooltip with the mispelled word, and `nil` - as if nothing is populating the list of corrections.

What is a mouse? Easier to set some keyboard shortcuts: (global-set-key (kbd "<f7>") 'flyspell-correct-wrapper) (global-set-key (kbd "C-;") 'flyspell-auto-correct-previous-word) `F7` checks the word at point (with a list of options). Using `C-;` Flyspell automatically corrects nearest wrong the word before point. This function is awesome as you don't have to move the cursor to correct something. If the first option is not what you need, then press `C-;` again as the function cycles through options. You can of course choose whatever keybinding suits you best.
