Hello everyone, I created an Emacs-independent (doesn't require Emacs to be running) agenda notification app. I tested it under Doom Emacs and vanilla Emacs, and it worked fine, please try it and report any possible issues at GitHub. Thanks!

It looks like an independent Org-mode app in PC, just like orgzly in Android and beorg in iOS.

Doesn't work. Looks like it's looking for doomscript.
Mahdi_Amel · 2022-11-24 07:47
Are you using doom? doomscript binary should be located at `~/.emacs.d/bin/doomscript`. Please report an issue https://github.com/salehmu/notifier.go/issues

I'm interested in using this, but isn't the command needed to install it \`go install [github.com/salehmu/notifier.go/notifier\`](https://github.com/salehmu/notifier.go/notifier`)? Also, perhaps the logs should be printed on stdout/stderr? For the moment, one has to go fish out \`\~/.config/notifier.go/log.log\` (which should probably be called notifier.log). No file gets created at \`\~/.config/agenda-notification/config.yaml\` here BTW, perhaps this needs a more helpful name, like \`org-agenda-notifier\`?

Thanks for comments >No file gets created at `~/.config/agenda-notification/config.yaml` here I fixed the typo and I will consider changing the name and fixing the log after making sure that it functions well. >go install github.com/salehmu/notifier.go/notifier I used to use `get -u` spontaneously, it works fine

Hi, I'm not using doom. I've my own customized emacs setup

Logs shouldn't live under .config. Please follow https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man7/hier.7.html and https://specifications.freedesktop.org/basedir-spec/latest/ar01s03.html

I feel like you just gave me a task

I pushed some fixes, you can try again

i don't use org-agenda but i was looking at you code and you may want to use [fsnotify](https://github.com/fsnotify/fsnotify) instead of a timer that may use more CPU than it should: https://github.com/salehmu/notifier.go/blob/main/internal/notifiy/notifiy.go#L27
Mahdi_Amel · 2022-11-26 11:47
Thank you for the comment, I will look up fsnotify. Although the code you pointed does not overhead the CPU, by default the ticker checks Emacs every 300 seconds (5 minutes) which is sorta lightweight in my opinion.
chmouelb · 2022-11-26 14:37
ah right! then fsnotify may be more "reactive" to change...
