How to create new buffer under the fido-vertical-mode on?

Yanpeng_Li · 2022-11-22 15:14
Say I used `C-x C-f` find a folder `d:/my_files`, there is a file called `ab.tex` in this folder. Now I wanna create a file called `a.tex` in this folder, so I input `d:/my_files/a.tex`. The problem is that `a.tex` matches `ab.tex`, I cannot create a new buffer named `a.tex`. Is there a way to solve this problem? I really like this `fido-vertical-mode`. https://preview.redd.it/osw9zuldri1a1.png?width=327&format=png&auto=webp&s=d0e064045ad661dc17c82696dad9e94af35f615a

IIRC, you need to move the selection up, then the selection will be the text that you typed, instead of the closest already-existing completion. So, try "C-p" or "M-p". Edit: Just to say, I think it's a fairly common point of confusion. I'm using Vertico, and it has the same behavior.

Use `M-j` (`icomplete-fido-exit`).

In my case, type `C-p` or `M-p` is invalid, emacs still used the (fuzz, flex) matched file name, then loaded it into a new buffer.

this solved my problem, thanks.

I am "highjacking" this thread for a similar question. I am used to `M-x p-l-p` Fido-mode doesn't know about that abbreviation. Can I still break-out of fido to accept `p-l-p`? `M-j` doesn't help here.
