Does Doom really take 15 seconds on initial loading?
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 03:57
No definitely not … Most (good) emacs configurations take ~1s to load up. Mine is somewhat inefficient, but it serves its purpose as I use an Emacs-Server so I don’t have to open it (and wait) multiple times
Pay08 · 2022-11-22 05:08
What WM is that?
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 05:09
I’m on MacOS but I’m using Rectangle (It’s Free!)

What a nice org mode config! Question though, you seem to really like configuring your emacs. What made you decide to go with doom rather than vanilla?
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 05:26
I was working on a Vanilla config and had a lot of fun (I was using a lot of ideas from Nicholas Rougier and his wonderful configuration) but I really liked the EVIL keybindings of Doom and also just in general the boilerplate stuff that was included by default. While it did start with fast startup times (which I ruined), I enjoy the features that are built in, which I can base my new configuration around.
what-the-functor · 2022-11-22 05:46
Slick! I’m going to borrow a lot from this, for my vanilla config.
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 05:47
Glad I could help!

> Mine is somewhat inefficient 15 seconds sounds like you have some bug somewhere. Check if you are loading stuff multiple times or something like that? > it serves its purpose as I use an Emacs-Server Generally yes, but if you have to restart Emacs for some reason, say some tweak, or maybe it crashes, it is nice not to have to wait 15 seconds, unless you going to get some coffee or something :). Nice looks by the way! I like the minimalism.

It’s great seeing cool setups like this, congrats!

Wish I was this smart in high school
Two_Souls · 2022-11-22 10:36
What's the nav bar tho? Rectangle is just a snap to wm ain't it?
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 12:16
I agree! I have something that has been malfunctioning lately which I’m looking into fixing … I’m not the most proficient Emacs user yet (I just made the switch about a month ago) feel free to check out my config and let me know if there is a glaring issue I can resolve
ior3k · 2022-11-22 12:16
Do you really use the xwidget webkit-based browser? If so, how's your experience been?
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 12:16
That’s Sketchybar! With a custom config I’ll add to my GitHub repo
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 12:16
Hahahah thank you!
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 12:16
Thank you!
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 13:00
It’s not my most used part of my config … but whenever I check my ORG-Roam-UI I have it open in Xwidgets. Additionally (since I’m still a highschool student) and our school puts our school work on the Brightspace learning platform, I’ve programmed some stuff that allows me to view this from inside of Emacs. And I use Xwidget Browser for that! I haven’t gotten into configuring it much yet, but definitely a cool tool!

Very nice. I recently switched to catpuccin from Dracula. It's a really nice theme!
Alone_as_always · 2022-11-22 13:35
Doom Emacs <3
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 13:52
It's the best!
Alone_as_always · 2022-11-22 13:59
I'm still quite new to it but it sure is!
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 14:18
I agree!
WallyMetropolis · 2022-11-22 14:23
I've been looking for something like Rectangle. Thanks!
konrad1977 · 2022-11-22 14:52
Nice theme ;)
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 15:44
Thanks!
nullmove · 2022-11-22 16:12
I can believe that if it was on Windows (though from OP's screenshots that's probably not the case). Last I tried was 5+ years ago, but for whatever reasons my same config on Windows was slower by more than 10x than it was on Linux.
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 17:07
I'm on MacOS, I think there is definitely something malfunctioning in my Configuration as I also get the *Package Deprecated cl* notification on startup ... but i'm looking into debugging this!
stayclassytally · 2022-11-22 17:12
I get that too. It’s a feature!
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 17:29
Just like my long startup times!
stayclassytally · 2022-11-22 17:31
The secret is to never leave emacs
Ponaldo7 · 2022-11-22 17:32
I don’t fear being stuck in the matrix because I already am trapped in Emacs :)
Two_Souls · 2022-11-22 19:32
This is what I have wanted for quite some time. Thanks.
