Hi everyone.
I recently updated mu4e from version 1.6.x to 1.8.x and I'm having problems to see mails that only contain a html part, they simply don't render (I tried to change the default shr render). I actually had the same problem with my 1.6.x version but you could opt for the old render (mu4e-view-use-old) which worked fine for me.
Any suggestions?

This is just speculation, but do you have mu4e-html2text-command set?

Thanks for the reply. I tried the suggested config and it doesn't do much. It is a weird behavior as some html messages are displayed, sometimes plain text messages are not displayed, and multi part messages don't even load. I'm getting my mail from thunderbird, I don't know if that is relevant.
I think it would be better to create an issue on github.

Ah, I forgot I made a change recently to always display plain text. Try deleting this:
(with-eval-after-load "mm-decode"
(add-to-list 'mm-discouraged-alternatives "text/html")
(add-to-list 'mm-discouraged-alternatives "text/richtext"))
Sorry about that.

I don't know what this means, but my setup assumes mail is in \~/Maildir. However you get your mail into this directory doesn't matter. I use IMAP and https://isync.sourceforge.io

After digging a bit more I found a solution:
It was indeed a problem with thunderbird and \^M characters

Glad to know you got it resolved
