I turned off backup and auto-save as:
(setq make-backup-files nil) ; stop creating backup~ files
(setq auto-save-default nil) ; stop creating #autosave# files
but still find ones prefixed with ".#"

How could also turn it off?

Those are lock files. They keep track of what is being currently edited

I believe there is a variable like “create-lockfiles” that you can set to nil
AbstProcDo · 2022-11-13 03:14
thank you, it works.

The lock files should auto remove as soon as you save the file. If your system or emacs crashes before you have saved something, then those files are there to help recover unsaved changes to the file by running M-x recover-this-file . So I would think twice about turning that off.
You can also tell emacs to keep backup files in a separate directory such as \~/backup so that they don't clutter up your filesystem. This doesn't take up a lot of space and and once every couple of years they sure come in handy if you have made a change to a file and several saves later you realize that you didn't want to delete something.

Try this:
`(setq make-backup-files nil)`
`(setq auto-save-default nil)`
`(setq create-lockfiles nil)`
