mu4e creating/mirroring a bunch of new directories up a level from where mbsync put email, but no idea how...

(I've been muscling my way through the various dated on-line guides, and reddit help has been so key... thank you... I'm almost there ;)) mbsync successfully gets my email into \~/.maildir/myGmail/ mu info shows maildir as \~/.maildir Email is indexed, I can run mu commands and see emails, etc. **TL;DR: Invoking mu4e in emacs then makes the \[Gmail\] structure under \~/.maildir rather than using the already existing \~/.maildir/\[Gmail\].** (The effect is I can go to unread email, but can't jump to inbox or any directories because they aren't where the mail is, they show all empty since they're the new dirs mu4e made.) I have no idea where this would be coming from since I thought mu4e is just going to use the mu info. Also I was going to try to re-init mu with \~/.maildir/myGmail, but can't figure out how the hell to do (and seems like it won't work for multiple accounts anyway). I can't seem to kill mu (can't find the process), but trying to init says it may already be running. If you can point me toward additional info that would be great. I'm on mac homebrew emacs and mu. (Much thanks to u/FrostyX_cz blog post on getting mbsync up).

OK, more info for future googling generations... (In the flurry of getting mu4e to show up I forgot some things from my .emacs): (setq mu4e-maildir "\~/.maildir) ;; adding /myGmail to this doesn't help, help says it's deprecated, so... (setq mu4e-root-maildir "\~/.maildir). ;; adding /myGmail doesn't seem to help here either. Changing the mu4e-maildir-shortcuts does nothing. mu4e-sent-folder, mu4e-trash-folder, etc seem like the things that matter. **TL;DR:** **(setq mu4e-sent-folder "/\[Gmail\]/Sent Mail") is what all the guides say, but** **(setq mu4e-sent-folder "/myGmail/\[Gmail\]/Sent Mail") seems to be what is required.** The maildir and root-maildir settings aren't used here?

yeah, the full path except "~/.maildir"
