Can you share why you prefer company directly with rtags vs. an LSP (lsp-mode or eglot)? Thanks.

Truth is I've failed at enabling c++ completion for a long time, and finally spent the time to make it work. I found company and rtags searching on the web, but now I've shared it with reddit and friends, I'm being told that LSP and/or eglot are the more modern ways to do it.
What can you tell me about these? Are they just a replacement for rtags and I'll still have to use company?

lsp/eglot emacs packages are just clients for LSP servers and they are alternatives for the rtags. The two LSP servers for C++ that I am aware about are CCLS, and clangd. I have used CCLS in the past but due to some wrong configuration on my end, whenever I edited a file, it triggered the re-indexing of the entire codebase. Then, for a while, I did not work on C++. A couple of months back, I tried clangd and it works well most of the times. If I am not wrong, rtags also seek a compilation database and the same can be used as an input for the CCLS and clangd servers. I would definitely recommend to try out either of the LSP servers.
company will still remain as your completion framework while the lsp package and server of your choice will serve as the backend for company and provide completions. I made a low-effort attempt to use corfu with lsp package but it didn't work (at all?) as good as company. So, I stuck with company itself.
