Can line numbers be displayed to the left of the fringe?

I use the lovely [org-modern](https://github.com/minad/org-modern) which draws little braces in the fringe---as you can see from the screenshot \`display-line-numbers-mode\` displays the line numbers to the right of the fringe---does anyone know a way to have the line numbers to the left of the fringe so the org-modern fringe braces are not separated from the src blocks by the line numbers? EDIT: eli-zaretskii pointed out that \`display-line-numbers-mode\` draws in the text area only so this isn't possible. Does anyone know of a package that can draw in the margin instead? https://preview.redd.it/dni8wcrmw3y91.png?width=1496&format=png&auto=webp&s=b16d3389ce193dc76713faf78a89ac49e2c0b31b

Maybe `fringes-outside-margins`

Thanks but this (when t) seems to place the fringes (and org-modern braces) even further to the left, making the order left-to-right as fringe:margin:linenums!

Your light theme looks great. Can I ask what theme this is?

Thanks! Funny thing is it's pretty custom and I'm colourblind, so I have no idea if other parts of the theme look awful to others haha. The theme is [in my personal config under "theming"](https://gitlab.com/jdm204/dotfiles/-/blob/master/config.org/), and it was inspired by `modus-operandi` and [apropospriate-theme](https://github.com/waymondo/apropospriate-theme)!

`display-line-numbers` shows the line numbers in the text area of the window, so by definition that cannot be to the left of the fringe.

Oh boy. Try the package `nlinum-relative`. Let me know if it works.

I’ve been searching for light themes which is clean, vivid, high contrast against white background and supporting other packages as much as possible. Your theme looks high contrast enough for non color blind people, too. Thank you for sharing your config! I will dig into your color palette later with rainbow-mode enabled!

Hmm, that does it in terms of the placement, but with it I don't get line numbers for SRC blocks at all and there's a noticeable delay when scrolling!

If you are into org-indent, you can try org-modern-indent, which draws braces in the text area.
