elfeed bug?

StrangeAstronomer · 2022-11-01 22:18
From time to time, elfeed gets confused and displays this in the mini-buffer: elfeed: 1 jobs pending.. and this on the first line of the search page: 0 jobs pending, 1 active .. There's no curl job running, in fact emacs has no child running (according to pstree). elfeed itself is still usable. The message survives a deletion of the elfeed buffers and is only cleared if I restart emacs. Which is a pain. Any ideas for me before I restart emacs again? (I've already scoured the bug reports at [https://github.com/skeeto/elfeed/issues](https://github.com/skeeto/elfeed/issues)) https://preview.redd.it/m7ocoy44zex91.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=6a0ee9597fa0b7f8c979d84d40f5f0a0134dc978

Try `(force-mode-line-update)`. Does that make the message disappear?

I see this a lot as well. I just ignore it.
StrangeAstronomer · 2022-11-01 22:49
Nope!

You're very tolerant! Being a creature of very small and defunct brain, I forget which feed I'm browsing and I need that top line. Of course, I can invoke 's' elfeed-search-set-filter to see where I am. More serious is that the mini-buffer is permanently shanghai'd by elfeed - so, for example, if I'm in a non-elfeed buffer and press C-h k to get help on a keypress, the mini-buffer flashes "Press Key" briefly and it returns to the elfeed message. Quite annoying.

Oh. I think the issue is actually different for me. I think for me the message only stays in the header line, not in the mini-buffer.

Why don't you report it to the package maintainer?
Careful_Assignment · 2022-11-02 01:06
Whenever I see this I run `M-x elfeed-unjam` and that seems to fix it.
StrangeAstronomer · 2022-11-02 02:24
Ah sweet! That's what I was hoping for. Works nicely! Thanks.
StrangeAstronomer · 2022-11-02 02:26
Because I was hoping for u/Careful_Assignment's reply!!!
qingshuizheng · 2022-11-02 19:18
I have this in my config: run \`elfeed-unjam' 5 min after every time 'elfeed-update' is called. `(setq elfeed-update-init-hooks (lambda () (run-with-timer nil 300 #'elfeed-unjam))`
StrangeAstronomer · 2022-11-02 22:51
Wow - I'll put that in my back pocket in case it gets too bad. So far it only happens about once every couple of week. Thanks for that.
