Is there a reliable grammar correction package for Emacs?
NoahEtan · 2022-10-29 10:06
I like to have any grammar mistakes that I make in Emacs pointed out to me such as being underlined and a list of suggestions to correct it especially when I am in org-mode Please advise.

Interesting! Is the server FOSS?

I have been using langtool - found it very helpful.

I also recommend languagetool, which requires no login compared to grammerly. You can use it with flycheck or flymake.

Definitely not

:D Well then I'm not falling for it. It's like the move from pyls to pyright. You just end up being at the mercy of the service provider without access to their code in case things go tits up.

You can also use [ltex-ls](https://github.com/valentjn/ltex-ls) with an LSP client. It is all FOSS in this way.

Ltex-ls is great, but I've always had trouble getting the server installed. Once it's set up through it works like a dream.
If you run your own languagetool server you can even add custom grammar rules and corrections.

This doesn’t use the official grammarly API. It’s straightforward to extract the official language server and hook it up to eglot.

Maybe you're thinking of pylance? pyright is [on GitHub under MIT license](https://github.com/microsoft/pyright/blob/main/LICENSE.txt). The shifting "boundary" between them is another issue though...

Ah shoot. Yes. You're right. Gosh it was so sneaky I couldn't believe it. Do you happen to know if a fully FOSS python server is in the works? Since Mi$$ hired one of the creators of python I have a feeling python is going to get ever-more tightly bound to proprietary tools (if you want a good workflow, that is).
