There are two hidden "Echo Area" buffer listed from current environment. ~ $ (enumerate (buffer-list)) |grep "Echo" (7 . #<buffer *Echo Area 0*>) (17 . #<buffer *Echo Area 1*>) which buffer displays the "Echo Area" I visually see. https://preview.redd.it/k2p5ss1qf2u91.png?width=801&format=png&auto=webp&s=88fc2969f3424fbfdbba42a2c1da413259ee7eec I tried the following but no text displayed from the echo area? ~ $ (with-current-buffer " *Echo Area 0*" (insert "testing")) ~ $ (with-current-buffer " *Echo Area 1*" (insert "testing")) Does the visible "Echo Area" live in a buffer?

The echo area is just used to manage what is displayed on the frame. The contents can be found in the "*messages*" buffer, but the contents of the echo buffers themselves are just subsets of other buffers and mapped to the window at the bottom of the screen (actually not literally, but windowing manager makes it appear as such during the display loop)

>buffers themselves thank you. I still bits of confused "what's the usage the two echo area buffer themselves. and also release that going deeper on this topic with my limited emacs knowledge does nothing helpful to improve skills of emacs.

The Emacs documentation does an excellent job of explaining windows, buffers, and files. I encourage people new to Emacs to regularly go back to the tutorial and the docs to build a better mental model of how it all works without getting mired in elisp or your local gui. I've been using Emacs since the mid 80's and been a daily user since the early 90's. I can honestly say that the echo area and it's management has not been a concern. You've dug deeper into it than I've ever had to 馃槈

wow, it's amazing to hear "since the mid 80's", you are precious to Emacs Users. Thanks for the encouragement, Sir.
