This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Since it is hard coded to use arxiv, does that limit you? I ask because it my own research work I almost never view papers from Arxiv. Mine are wherever Google Scholar funds them, or academia.edu, or any number of other places.

For me it works perfectly in 99% use cases as most of the papers in our field is first released through Arxiv. That being said, I would love to have the functionality of other sources. Currently I use the org-ref method `arxiv-get-pdf-add-bibtex-entry` to fetch papers from arxiv. Zotra.el is a package which allows you to talk to the Zotero standalone translation server, but this server only returns a formatted bib, not the pdf. I would be down to replicate a Zotero translation server in elisp, closely following the org-ref functions, which also fetches the pdf.

I use zotero but i partucularly dont use the connector. Is there any emacs package that do these two things? (1) maintain a bib file with all my references and show them like zotero, ie sortable tae with categories and tags, (2) generate a full bib entry from the doi. Those are the only two features I use zotero for.

Look into Ebib -- its awesome.

1. You can use Citar which does exactly that. 2. Not that I know of, but the functions that I use in org-ref generates a bib entry from arxiv link.

> (2) generate a full bib entry from the doi [doi-utils](https://github.com/jkitchin/org-ref/blob/master/doi-utils.el), part of [org-ref](https://github.com/jkitchin/org-ref/blob/master/doi-utils.el), has functions to add bib entries from DOIs. Previously I used Zotero, but recently migrated to a pure Emacs solution, which relies on [zotra](https://github.com/mpedramfar/zotra) for the connectors, [ebib](http://joostkremers.github.io/ebib/) for creating and editing bibliographic entries, and [org-cite](https://www.reddit.com/r/orgmode/comments/vchefn/guide_to_citations_in_orgmode/) and [citar](https://github.com/emacs-citar/) for inserting and formatting citations.

Nice! but how do you get the pdfs though using zotra?
