Emacs bindings as QMK layer(s)?

I’m trying to see if ergoemacs bindings would be viable by only using standard emacs shortcuts but implemented as layers in smart keyboards like Ergodox (qmk firmware based). In essence I want the layout in ergoemacs but only using layers for each of the different modifiers. Has anybody here done something similar or know any links I can checkout? Not sure if this might help but use the Function keys F13 to F24, you can bind them on a layer in QMK and then in Emacs assign those Function keys to your needs.

Good point.

I've used mugur to create layouts for the [corne](https://github.com/zzkt/crkbd) and [charybdis](https://github.com/zzkt/charybdis) keyboards which might provide some inspiration. You can add keybindings, sequences and function calls (as text input) as needed. From the layouts you can see there is a mix of movement, strings and prefixes as single keys (e.g. M-x or C-c) which works well for me, and some less frequently used stuff in stacked layers. Since the keys are limited, you'll probably need to focus on how you use emacs and iterate through a few variations to find something that works well for you.

Also worth looking at the `KC_LAPO` and `KC_RAPC` keys in QMK which insert parens when tapped and alt when held. very useful for lisp programming.
