> The fact that this software project existed continuously for nearly half a decade surely you meant half a century :P

Corrected :P Thanks for reading all the way there <3

Nice write up, learnt about `align-regexp`, cool! I had heard about meow but never looked into it so I could use/retain/learn vi(m) editing. Especially for remote cli connections (ssh, containers, CI/CD) , since vi(m) is more ubiqutuously available. But because of that choice I don't know either editor as well, hahaha! P. S. evil-collection helps with the keybindings for a lot of packages.

Great post, thanks for sharing! :) > There is a popular Emacs package called evil, which provides Vi emulation. Just a small nitpick: It's helpful to distinguish between vi and Vim here, because Emacs actually comes built in with excellent vi emulation called [Viper](https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_mono/viper.html#Overview) (no external package needed) and those familiar with editors like nvi will be right at home. Evil on the other hand is intended to emulate Vim which is a whole other beast.

Nice write-up and congrats on getting moderately settled into Emacs 🥳. This article is going to help me rip off the band-aid on giving meow a good chance. Considering that some dactyls from Bastard Keyboards are on the way, I should probably decide this week if I switch to meow already before I also try to adopt to a different layout (ortholinear+dactyl manuform) and risk taking on overwhelmingly much change in a small timeframe. Was hoping to delay this to the xmas downtime but, who am I kidding. 😂 How long did you take to get comfy in meow, considering your former vim-comfiness?

Yeah I was like, "Vi and Vim are different?"--I've fucked up enough on Vi to know--and wondered if Vi^2 was some kind of notation for Vim I didn't know about. Turned out the 2 was just a footnote lol.

Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed reading about your setup and thought process, and the links were very informative, too. Even if it did give me pain that you removed the scroll bar lol

I haven't had a scrollbar in emacs for like a decade...
lj-read-it · 2022-10-03 11:33
I don't understand how people can live without scrollbars xD to each their own.
FuzzyPixelz · 2022-10-03 19:33
The hardest thing was fighting my muscle memory, and the fact that meow inverses Vim's Verb -> Object commands. So ci( is ,rc , Means inner of r Means rounded c Still means change It took about a week to get used to this. It's not radically different
FuzzyPixelz · 2022-10-03 19:34
Thanks for the remark, I will correct it.
JDRiverRun · 2022-10-04 23:41
By putting them [in the modeline](https://github.com/jdtsmith/mlscroll).

That is both neat and cursed lmao
