No one can tell you how you installed Emacs.
op_satoshi · 2022-09-29 11:58
Just apt-get install emacs.
Tenn1518 · 2022-09-29 12:00
Remove emacs-nox?
op_satoshi · 2022-09-29 12:04
Not there. Only emacs, emacs-gtk, emacs-el, emacs-common, emacs-bin-common.

Maybe out of topic, but do you maybe use flatpacks? I have heard some horror stories of multiple Gtk versions installed just becuase of bad dependencies. Maybe different versions got installed as dependency for something else?
I can also recommend you to keep 28 installed, it is a better version den 27, but it is up to you.

emacs-28 isn't in the standard repos for ubuntu 22.04 (they have 27.1), but there is a snap. Have you tried removing it using `snap`?
7890yuiop · 2022-09-29 12:43
Except it's clearly not "just" that, given that you have two of them.
op_satoshi · 2022-09-29 13:24
Confirmed it wasn't installed by snap list.
op_satoshi · 2022-09-29 13:29
I‘m sorry but what is flatpacks?
And I heard version 28 is better, but I want to use GUI emacs…
op_satoshi · 2022-09-29 13:35
But I have no idea…
I just installed ubuntu today, and installed chrome, emacs, and downloaded Dracula theme for terminal…
arthurno1 · 2022-09-29 14:05
If you don't know flatpack is don't worry about it.
Emacs 28 has GUI too, I promise! 😀
Seems like you have emaxs-nox installed as your Emacs.
I suggest uou invest some time into learning your OS. I have never used Ubuntu since I consider it a bad OS, but you should learn how to install and uninstall applications, as well as how to check dependencies for installed applications.

A work around, if your goal is to just run emacs 27 from the terminal and don't worry about emacs 28 lying around, would be to just find out where 27 is installed and put that directory in the front of your PATH environment variable.
franburstall · 2022-09-29 18:04
Start by finding out where your rogue `emacs 28.2` is. In your terminal, do
which emacs
Then simply remove that file. (This will leave some stuff lying around but...)
7890yuiop · 2022-09-29 21:25
Sure, I understand that you don't know. I'm just pointing out that **we** know even less than you do about what **you've** installed (knowingly or otherwise).
You've essentially said "I did a thing, but I don't know what it was. How do I fix it?" and all anyone can do in response to that is make guesses.
7890yuiop · 2022-09-29 21:32
I suggest you start by *uninstalling* the one you knowingly installed, and then confirm which of the two versions you end up with after that.
