I can't download packages from elpa

[deleted] · 2022-09-19 12:47
I am very new at creating my own emacs config and I use use-package to install packages. (setq package-archives '(("melpa" . "https://melpa.org/packages/") ("melpa-stable" . "https://stable.melpa.org/packages/") ("org" . "https://orgmode.org/elpa/") ("elpa" . "https://elpa.gnu.org/packages"))) If I run package-refresh-contents it says "Failed to download elpa archive" Elpa seems to be up and running. I can visit that domain via web browser. And running emacs with emacs -q I can use package-install normally. So I have no clue what's going on. There are no error running package-refresh-contents using emacs -q.

> "https://elpa.gnu.org/packages" add extra `/` at the end also, you don't need "org" one, melpa-stable is questionable too

Thanks, that was it. So I should remove org and melpa-stable?

shortly - yes p.s. could you mark the thread as [solved]?

The org is deprecated. It is not used anymore. The elpa is part of the package archives. All you need to do just append the melpas. (add-to-list 'package-archives '("melpa" . "https://melpa.org/packages/" "melpa-stable" . "https://stable.melpa.org/packages/")) Take a look at my config: https://github.com/zoliky/dotemacs
