Something weird with latest emacs 29.0.... and magit

cradlemann · 2022-09-16 09:10
I just compile Emacs from latest master and I have very strange issues with magit only. It refuse to scroll between diff lines and do not want to open magit-status buffer second and more times if I execute magit-status again. Just check on latest stable version 28.2 and the same magit version and everything works perfectly WARNING TO EVERY EMACS 29.0 USER!

29 is a Dev branch so issues are expected

Yes I know, this is a reminder for others

File a bug report. There's a built in way to do it from within Emacs. It was also broken for a while collapsing the diff views, but they fixed that, so keep that in mind if you try to find the commit that broke it. They have been reworking the way that buffers handle long lines which has led to significant performance gains, but it seems to be breaking functionality that magic uses.

>They have been reworking the way that buffers handle long lines which has led to significant performance gains, but it seems to be breaking functionality that magic uses. OK, now I understand. Yes this sounds like a root of the issue.

> Yes this sounds like a root of the issue. It does? Does that buffer have very long lines?
cradlemann · 2022-09-16 12:15
No it doesn't, but diff buffer has. I don't know if this is related

The issue that I was referencing was fixed in https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/emacs.git/commit/?id=a2d62456a7b8da27fb9b64f71b6ce588f2d73287 Do you have that commit in your tree?
cradlemann · 2022-09-16 12:24
Yes I have. Than something else cause this weird behavior.

You should probably mention that in the post, because the way it's written is the same as when a support ticket comes in with somewhat lacking information.

OK
