Suppose that I complete this habit today (september 6th). org will then schedule the habit for october 6th, but I need it to schedule to october 1st, no matter when I completed the task

Have a read of the [repeated tasks](https://orgmode.org/manual/Repeated-tasks.html) section of the org manual. I'm almost completely certain org-habits will still work just fine with a regular repeater like `+1m`, which will behave the way you want. Although to be honest I don't have any like that.

don't use the "." - when the habit repeats, it will go to the first of the next month, no matter when you finish it.

Getting paid (salary) at the start of the month is a good habit to have 🤪
