are there any benefits of using emacs on wayland than Xorg?

I compile emacs with pgtk but my system use xorg. Are any features of pgtk works right now? Because I've read that it should be wayland.

I'm not sure why I'm answering as I'm not even that informed, but if I'm wrong it will prompt a correction no doubt. AFAIK "pgtk" or "pure GTK" means it can display using only the GTK framework, having removed the direct calls to X11 it has had. GTK works equally on X11 or on Wayland, so a pgtk build can display on either, but without it you can't display natively on Wayland (and instead use an X11 emulation layer). I'm not sure that it comes with other advantages if you're on X11, except you'll be helping to test it.

Apparently on Xorg you should never use PGTK. [2022-04-15 PGTK-related misconceptions](https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2022-04/msg00761.html) > People using X should _never_ use PGTK. The regular X build does a much > better job at supporting that than PGTK ever will.

I am trying to use the pgtk 28.1 with doom, but it crashes too much for me, and I can't figure out which plugin is responsible. It is the only xwayland I run (sway)

> I compile emacs with pgtk but my system use xorg. The maintainer of the pgtk code has stated explicitly that this is the wrong thing to do. If you have X then you don't want to be building with pgtk. https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2022-04/msg00761.html

You get to tell those people still using X11 "It's 2022, my dude, get yourself a real windowing system". And that's about it from an Emacs standpoint.

It's 2022 and Wayland stills doesn't get inter-process communication and input method right.

I tried last year. But had some problems: Teams dosen't work properly - which is default tool in work, guake, and gzdoom - and how can I operate without doom on computer? ;)

Emacs with pgtk works better for for highdpi even on X11.

Did you check if emacs is really running under xwayland? Gtk kills the app if it looses the display connection on Wayland. https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-gnu-emacs/2022-08/msg00305.html

Teams is deprecated for Linux. In any case newer Electron versions work good on Wayland.
