Is it possible to move my Obsidian Markdown notes to Org Roam?

Hey there, I am currently using r/ObsidianMD and would like to try Org Roam soon, but I already have a huge Zettelkasten System in Obsidian and thus invested a lot of time into it. Is it possible to use it in Org mode? I've found a package for org markdown support, so the markdown files should not be the problem but probably the meta information.

Yes. Anthing can be done with emacs as long as you're willing to invest the time on it. If all the metadata of the obsidian file is in plain text, a well execute kmacro should be able to take care of this

You may also want to consider [prot/denote](https://protesilaos.com/emacs/denote) which supports .org, .md (with yaml or toml front matter) and .txt files. So you may be able to use your existing markdown files as is after you rename them to the denote file naming convention.

I've recently done sth similar but from TiddlyWiki (which has a quite similar syntax to ORG mode) to org-roam. You could use pandoc to convert your markdown files into ORG mode easily. Maybe you need to do some adjustments for the meta information (using sed,awk & co.) Maybe this part helps: https://blog.dornea.nu/2022/09/03/migrate-tiddlywiki-to-org-roam-part-1-export-tiddlers/#convert-to-org-mode

Yo, just a headsup from someone who uses org-roam for quite a while now - you are soooo going to miss the GUI advantage of Obsidian after the transition. I love org-roam, but the amount of work it takes me to have the notes available on my phone (haven’t managed to get that done yet btw) is a lot. So before you transfer all that stuff, make a complete backup so you can use Obsidian again once you start getting frustrated by being completely tied to emacs and your laptop 😊

That's one of the things why I will stick to both for now until I know a solution. Obsidian is great but when I have a keyboard, I want to go apeshit productive without a mess of software and emacs has the potential of living inside one software and just work without leaving this tunnel view. On mobile Obsidian is probably better without a bluetooth keyboard to quickly handle notes. I'm still not sure about org-roam, for now it's about curiousity. For other stuff it's already an awesome experience to use emacs. One problem I have with obsidian is the organizations besides making notes. The calendars are a mess. Sometimes I can't resize them and for this org looks like the thing I need. Another disadvantage of only using emacs is digital handwriting, Obsidian has Excalidraw but Emacs does not have such a package. I'm new to emacs and already wonder how much time I already spent tweaking emacs :D Btw I'm able to use my Workstation with my phone, it's not perfect as of today but I see huge potential in this.

Zettelkasten System work, this was my solution anyway.

There exists Beorg for iOS and orgzly for android to get org mode on your phone, with syncthing (möbius on iOS) you can sync your files
