Highlight an active line
igoryon · 2022-09-05 12:17
Is there some option or plugin, that highlights a current line, i.e., the line with the cursor.
In many other programming editors, I was able do enable such option. It makes very convenient. You can see right away on which line your editing cursor is just by a glance.

Alternative: https://protesilaos.com/emacs/lin

I wouldn't say `lin` is an alternative, more an enhancement to the built-in `hl-line-mode`.

Beacon and Pulsar are nice solutions
Ok-Analysis-7820 · 2022-09-05 22:11
I been looking for this package name forever. I thought it was called lighthouse 😂
igoryon · 2022-09-06 00:38
does it only work on emacs V28+?
hhoverton · 2022-09-06 02:26
+1 for beacon, I never lose my cursor anymore
fatfingerdeathcrunch · 2022-09-06 05:20
;; Version: 0.4.0
;; Package-Requires: ((emacs "27.1"))
Which versions are you on?
DOMINATORLORD9872 · 2022-09-06 10:54
I mean, you're not wrong
q_pe15 · 2022-09-06 11:02
I switched from beacon to [pulsar.el](https://protesilaos.com/emacs/pulsar) because beacon sometimes was buggy.
thetemp_ · 2022-09-06 12:50
If there's a bug, you should report it... But if you can upgrade to v28, you'll be glad you did.
odeuteronomy · 2022-09-06 13:21
`(setq beacon-color "#cdcd00")` if you are using the solarized theme.
igoryon · 2022-09-09 02:01
26.3
igoryon · 2022-09-09 02:01
I will try to upgrade
igoryon · 2022-09-09 05:23
OK, i've installed emacs V28, so this addon will work, but when I do M-x pulsar-\*anything\*, it only does once.
How can I make it permanent? I am a newbie in emacs and just in the process of learning it. Just going through the tutorial. Please, help.
igoryon · 2022-09-09 05:32
What's the difference between those 2?
MonsieurPi · 2022-09-09 06:41
I don't know. I use pulsar but they seem to do the same thing.
q_pe15 · 2022-09-10 12:31
I use `(pulsar-global-mode t)` to enable pulsar globally.
BuilderHarm · 2022-09-13 08:59
To make settings permanent in Emacs, you edit your init file. Everything that is in your init file will be called upon startup.
So if you include `(pulsar-global-mode t)` in your init file, it will be called at every startup.
