Using CEDET in current year

GlitchedMirror · 2022-08-31 11:22
For IDE goodness I currently use projectile+eglot, but I was always curious about CEDET. http://cedet.sourceforge.net/ I don't see anyone talking about it. Do people still use it? How does it compare to the moderm LSP experience?

It is included in Emacs, so you don't need to downloaded it from SF, but it seems like none is working on it as an IDE. Pieces are used in different projects, but I don't know how many people are actually using it, and some components have more popular replacements.

There was a [talk at the EmacsConf last year](https://emacsconf.org/2021/talks/clede) about [CLEDE](https://gitlab.com/sasanidas/clede).

Never heard of CLEDE before, looks interesting. Thanks.

For code completion and navigation it has largely been replaced by tools you mention: lsp-mode, eglot, projectile, etc. I remember trying to use it 10+ years ago for completion and navigation. I had some success, but it was quite buggy. I read that around then, development would mostly cease, and then a few years later, clang servers became pretty good, so I switched and never looked back.
