Look at what one of our Emacs siblings made! So cool and beautiful. Vim cheat sheet wallpaper.

I'm posting this here because a lot of us use Doom and Spacemacs. Also, many on us use a custom locked editing mode (what people sometimes call modal editing). I myself have begun using Modalka (an awesome package! shout out to RYO too), and this inspires me to make my own cheat sheet wallpaper, in addition to providing some ideas, either through agreement or opposition, about what I should do with my Modalka setup.

This is beautiful. I'm not using it because I don't like wallpapers with text, but it's beautiful.

As a complete beginner, I decided to first learn Vim and then move to Doom Emacs + evil mode. So this will come in handy! Thank you!

If you don’t already know vim, stick with the right way to do things in Emacs, don’t learn a new style. Rebind caps-lock with control and now you can master the Emacs way of doing things.

Thank you so much for this

Heya. I'm the creator of this. Just saw this and popped in to say thanks for linking, rather than just posting as your own. It's so heartwarming when people do the right thing! <3

Yup, I am a new doom user.
nv-elisp · 2022-08-27 16:01
Why?
sunnyata · 2022-08-27 17:31
Not the person you replied to but documentation will make more sense and quite a few packages break evil-mode don't they? I wouldn't know, never used it, but ISTM if you're starting from scratch why add the extra overhead.
nv-elisp · 2022-08-27 17:53
Why use Emacs at all, then? It's certainly more "overhead" than just using a basic text editor. Maybe that shouldn't be the determining factor.
TheIsletOfLangerhans · 2022-08-27 18:09
I think they're just saying that someone who is new to both Emacs and Vim might benefit from becoming comfortable with Emacs before diving into Vim/evil-mode. I agree because it seems like less of a cognitive load that way, but I'm sure some people are jumping to Emacs specifically for the full-featured IDE-like experience offered with something like doom.
sunnyata · 2022-08-27 21:28
> Why use Emacs at all, then? Because doing that repays all the effort you put into it. What value using vi keybindings adds on top of that, and whether it outweighs translating the standard docs and dealing with packages that don't play nice with evil I don't know but it's certainly more to learn. One step at a time, I'd say.

How useful is this anyway? If you use a stacking wm, chances are you will see a small part of the wallpaper at any time. If you use a tiling wm with gaps, you will never get a good look at the wallpaper. If you fullscreen all the applications, then you will never get a look at the wallpaper.
