How can I change the color of the red marked areas?
lebensterben · 2022-08-20 02:48
you can hide menu bar, tool bar, and scroll bar. but I don't think you can change the theme.
CorysInTheHouse69 · 2022-08-20 02:59
Pretty sure you can only change these through your gtk settings, but this is windows so idk
v4racing · 2022-08-20 03:13
Install Linux lol you can't change the color on windows I think
hangingpawns · 2022-08-20 03:36
That's not really emacs at this point. That's a feature of your desktop environment.
Rapiz · 2022-08-20 03:42
Thanks @all!
Well Windows is not the best OS for GNU Project software because it's not Free Software, glad that I'm already a heavy Linux user 😬
I will hide this mess for my Windows environment.
Should be unnecessary anyway to become a keyboard magician.
Rapiz · 2022-08-20 03:45
This is the way.

While you couldn't get rid of the titlebar, I'm curious if it's possible to use Emacs in WSL with the help of some integrations: [https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-dev-appconsult/running-wsl-gui-apps-on-windows-10/ba-p/1493242](https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-dev-appconsult/running-wsl-gui-apps-on-windows-10/ba-p/1493242)
Like said, wouldn't get rid of the titlebar, but could at least manage the theming of the rest.

Any Windows version up to at least XP allowed you to customize any system-wide colors. So invent a time machine, go back to 2005 or so, and convince Microsoft not to remove Classic themes.
(Or you could install a free operating system and learn GTK+ theming.)

Switch to Linux and check out /r/unixporn

Running Emacs in WSL on Windows 11 works like a charm these days. No need for 3rd-party XServer any more due to WSLg.
cazzipropri · 2022-08-20 11:08
Just disable them...
Saikyun · 2022-08-20 14:07
If you are on Windows 11, you can search for "Theme and related settings" in the Windows Start Menu, click "Color", then change from "Bright" to "Dark".
(I'm on swedish windows so some of these words might not be exactly right.)
shoostar813 · 2022-08-20 14:49
use green
MegaWanXL · 2022-08-20 14:53
You can definitely change the title bar using the theme selection in windows, however that’s only when the window is active (you’re actively typing in emacs) if you want to change the color of inactive windows you need to change the value manually in the registry editor. I don’t remember the exact process but a quick google search for something like “windows change inactive window color” always brought it up for me. As for the menu bar, tool bar, and scroll bar all can be removed inside emacs
00-11 · 2022-08-20 16:05
Yes, but that doesn't change the window title area's background (title bar). That's under the control of the window manager.
noman_032018 · 2022-08-20 16:51
Remember that if you need them for discovery purposes or whatever else (it can be useful with a new package you're unfamiliar with), "M-`" (tmm-menubar) and "F10" (menu-bar-open) are available.
Fine-Can-5001 · 2022-08-20 17:21
Change the theme in windows.
Fine-Can-5001 · 2022-08-20 17:24
Just he he said above or below what it now is, in Wsl2 on win 11 it works like the charm of all charms.
Rapiz · 2022-08-20 17:25
Yeah, I'm still wondering what Microsoft smoked to think that this feature is good 😂
Thanks I didn't know that it can be set in the registry, good to know for other redditors.
But I've fucked up my registry too often by removing programs and moving program folders and reinstalled Windows a couple times to fix the registry 😬
ruscaire · 2022-08-20 17:39
Yep is GTK in with windows too. I’d say all this stuff is compiled in. You might be able to tweak it if u build from source.
s-rp · 2022-08-20 19:12
Gotcha - my only Windows computer is a work laptop on 10, so definitely out of the loop. Thanks :)
scroy · 2022-08-20 20:20
They still had them in Windows 7
bdevel · 2022-08-20 23:11
If that is Gnome GTK then yes. You can apply user CSS styles to your desktop theme. Not sure if it can be application specific however.
metacritical · 2022-08-21 10:18
Well you can colour the scroll bar [https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/ScrollBar](https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/ScrollBar)
Also if you compile with --with-natural-title-bar the bar will have the same colour as the buffer so that should solve the problem.
lynnuxcn · 2022-08-23 01:44
If running emacs on win10 and above, the lastest of emacs 29 will support dark mode, it can change the color of title and the scroll bar according to your dark theme.
