Hey, I'm trying to learn Emacs and I have the quest of changing the theme.
Emacs creates an .emacs\~ file automatically.
I've also created an .emacs file, in both I have
(add-to-list 'custom-theme-load-path "\~/.emacs.d/themes/")
But emacs can't find shit. Any clue why?
Edit:
Somehow the custom-theme-load-path is somewhere else in Program Files instead of %Appdata%/.emacs.d/themes/.
For someone stumbling across the same problem:
Emacs\\emacs-28.1\\share\\emacs\\28.1\\etc\\themes
Edit2:
Solved by creating init.el instead of .emacs in /%appdata%/.emacs.d
i.e. /%appdata%/.emacs.d/init.el instead of /%appdata%/.emacs.d/.emacs
And inside .init.el:
(add-to-list 'custom-theme-load-path "\~/.emacs.d/themes/")

Side note: have you considered using emacs in wsl2 instead of natively on windows?

Good point! What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing so? I haven't Windows for a long time but does WSL2 take good care of supporting Windows drives as Unix paths?

It makes things easier. For example, getting mu4e to work on windows is nearly impossible, but is quite easy in wsl2 because you have a full Linux system at your disposal. You can even get exwm to work on windows.
On the other hand, file management is extremely slow IF you access windows files from wsl2. It can be done, but is very slow. If you have your files inside wsl2, it has no performance penalty.

How did you get EXWM working on WSL2? And what kind of windows are you managing with it? (E.g. browsers or other windows)

I was some time ago and I didn't do much with it. I just installed exwm, ran it from a regular emacs session, saw it taking up my whole screen, ran a couple of programs to test it (don't remember which), said "cool", and never done it again.
I was pre-wslg, so things might be different now.
