text/overlays q: How would you hide text unless point is on an overlay/propertised area?

Hey all, I'm trying to hack org-mode so that citations appear more compact unless I navigate into them for editing. In particular, I want citations to display as `[@]` ordinarily, but to show the full `[cite:@supermegalongcitekey2000; etc...]` when point enters the citation. I feel like I've seen this behaviour somewhere else in the org ecosystem, though it escapes me right now. Anyone know how to achieve this, or can point to a package doing this kind of thing? :) Edit: Got it! 馃帀 Thanks for rubber-ducking dear reader. https://github.com/chrisbarrett/.emacs.d/commit/197b15bd67c7e7e4d0cd35801a10fd129a4eba52

That looks pretty useful. I hope you'll contribute it somewhere appropriate so it can be easily used by others. :)

Thanks! This implementation has some weird corner-cases so I wouldn't want to upstream it at this stage, but I'll keep riffing on it and see if it gets better. :)

It is not exactly what you describe but I wrote an Org-cite [activation processor](https://github.com/andras-simonyi/org-cite-csl-activate) which replaces citations with their rendered preview and shows the full citation only when point enters them.

This looks really good! This looks like a good cite activation system for academic writing. 馃憤 My use case is close-but-different, but I've made a note of yours. :)
