Is there any emacs package for reading mobi files?

I think there are packages for reading epub files, but I have seen none so far for reading mobi files on emacs. Is there any?

None that I'm aware of. Easiest thing is to convert them to ePub with Calibre (or some other tool of your choice). Mobi is an old and weird binary format, which Emacs isn't great at handling. It's actually a PalmOS PDB file, because the format originates with MobiPocket, an ebook reader for the early Palm devices, which Amazon subsequently bought. I believe that up to AZW3, the format is still readable as a PDB file for backwards compatibility.

Oh, so that's why I am unable to find a package for mobi files. I felt thought emacs should have at least something that can open mobi files and kept 'googling' for it.

calibredb seems interesting. I will look into it once I am able to install it. At the moment 'M-x package-install calibredb' tells me "Need package 'request-0.3.3', but only 0.3.2 is available". Seems like I have to wait for the repos to have the updated required package.

I've considered to support .mobi files in nov.el, but decided against it because unlike .epub it's not an open format and often subjected to DRM. For this reason I decided to fully focus on .epub instead.

Makes sense. For now, I will just convert the current mobi book I am reading to epub using calibre and then I can use emacs to read it. Lately I find myself using emacs for more and more stuff without even realizing it!
