TIL some journals don't accept latex... Wow
tangonov · 2022-08-07 06:48
I only pretend that I write important things in org-mode.

This is a bot that reposted [my old post](https://www.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/ozqhbi/how_do_you_write_academic_papers_in_orgmode). (Which had paragraph breaks in it btw.) Please report.

See The Kitcin’s group how they manage this https://kitchingroup.cheme.cmu.edu/blog/2014/08/08/What-we-are-using-org-mode-for/

Fellow linguist here; same pain. I **thought** about transitioning to org mode, but didn't do it, because the big problem are glossed examples. There is one package that allows to export to LaTeX:
https://github.com/wyleyr/ox-linguistics
But of course, the problem is to export to Word or something compatible. I believe there might be a way of leveraging the XML style of *Glossa* to achieve some good base for conversion, but I don't have the time or energy to do the programming.
So, mostly, I just stay with LaTeX -> pandoc -> odt

You could use the ODT exporter for “MS Word” files, then convert that ODT to either Word files or PDF. If you’re not pleased with the output, you can customize the styling of an example ODT document, then saving it as a template file, and then use reference that template file when exporting to ODT.
Not sure about your other concerns as I don’t really write in CJK but there’s probably a way to accomplish that as well.
I’ve used org export to write papers for exams and such, so this should work decently well, although I’m not sure about journals.
See the manual on exporting and also OpenDocument exporting for more information. Citations should work pretty well, I recommend using citeproc.el instead of the basic one. See
a blog post by tecosaur for more information on citations, as the manual is currently quite sparse on information.
