I recently got a new computer and installed fedora 36 on it, then i installed emacs via the dnf package manager and got this problem where when i press C-SPC the mark is apparently set but moving around doesn't highlight text. Not knowing what to do (I only used emacs for a few weeks prior to that), I installed the flatpak version instead, which produced the same result, I have no clue what to try next, I would appreciate any suggestion

I think the region being "highlighted" is controlled by transient-mark-mode. Is it disabled?

Sorry, but I'm not sure how to, Do I have to add something to my .emacs?

update: i got it to work, It was not a problem with transient-mark-mode which was activated but it was i problem with the background color in my font face apparently
thanks for your help c:

I'm glad you discovered the issue. As I was reading your post I expected it was a color/contrast issue. For reference, if you are ever not sure about what is being highlighted, I suggest killing it with Ctrl-w. You will immediately know if it did something. Another trick concerning the kill-ring. If you ever aren't sure about what you've added to it, you can use Alt-y instead of Ctrl-y to browse the kill-ring letting you see what you have done and making it easy to chose the snippet you want.
