„Emacs was not built with native compilation support“
Restitutionshot · 2022-08-04 19:45
I just got my first non windows computer so I’m really new to all of this and I’m not so sure what to do. I followed [this tutorial](https://youtu.be/eyYxuIGF8-g) on YouTube on how to download doom eMacs, but when I run doom doctor I get the warning in the title. I’m not sure what to do, do I need to redownload eMacs or something? I’m on a MacBook Pro M1, thank you for any help I have no clue what to do

Its fine, don't worry about it. Its an optional feature that your Emacs copy isn't built with. Neither is mine. It might be a bit slower without native compilation support, but you'll probably not notice. Its not worth putting thought into for now, leave it in the backlog for when you have settled in properly.

You can use Emacs without native compilation. Native compilation is just a speed optimization that you enable when building Emacs from source code. If you are new to Emacs I recommend that you leave it be and use Emacs without native compilation.

> eMacs
It's just "emacs".

That’s the stupid autocorrect on iPhones.
I don’t know why apple thinks that this is the way to write emacs, probably because of the capital P in iPhone.
I thought when I correct this autocorrect often enough it will unlearn eMacs and learn emacs. But it doesn’t work

We get some folks that have very curious beliefs about how "emacs" is to be stylized. :)
I'm sure there's a more explicit way to override autocorrect entries, but not being an iphone user, sorry, I can't be specific. NBD, in any case. :)

That's because apple put out a product called the eMac in 2002, so when someone types "emacs" into their iPhone 20 years later, they obviously mean multiple eMac machines. Obviously.
iPhone autocorrect also won't let me spell it "macbook" like a cool kid. It's pretty opinionated

I like to imagine that the Wikipedia URL is an intentional slap in the face to Apple for this particular autocorrect irritation.

Check this [video](https://youtu.be/eyYxuIGF8-g) out he's installing emacs on Silicon M1

Just set up a text replacement for emacs —> emacs.
Schievel1 · 2022-08-05 04:11
