Representing org-mode folding in the fringe?

org-mode will use an ellipsis (org-ellipsis) at the end of folded headings to represent its hidden contents. You can edit org-ellipsis to display a different string of characters, but is there a way to represent folded headings in the fringe?

Line numbers? indicators.el probably can from what I’m reading, although I haven’t used it. The GitHub description says it can add indicators to functions and they can be dynamically updated and compute their position. It also seems like some good ole elisp could do it much more efficiently. Something dumb simple like if using the elipsis (whatever/however that means) put an indicator in the fringe on that line. But it’s late and I’m not at the computer and I’m lazy. I hope that helps.

Note that folding does not always happen on the whole heading contents. Otherwise, you may advice `org-flag-region` function and put a fringe marker as you wish.
