I seem to have still a directory org-20171205 in my .emacs.d/elpa dir. Al of a sudden this seems to give problems when starting emacs on fedora36 (standard install from the fedora repos) stating the following error: org-compat.el: Error: Wrong number of arguments (3 . 4) I found some stuff about a change in a macro or function with the switch to emacs 28 but I do not understand why I start to get this now weeks after switching to fedora 36. It also is not clear how I can solve this, how to get the latest org-mode (wasn't that included in emacs ?) and why it only starts creating problems now Can I delete the 20171205 version?

Did you try updating from the package menu? I usually open the package menu, 'U' to mark upgradable packages and 'X' to upgrade them. This is of course assuming you have the package repo setup correctly. For that I have the following at the top of my init: (require 'package) (setq package-archives       '(("gnu" . "http://elpa.gnu.org/packages/")         ("nongnu" . "https://elpa.nongnu.org/nongnu/")         ("melpa" . "https://melpa.org/packages/")))
