Is there some escape sequence that can used to create line breaks when org tables are converted to HTML?

I'm beginning to find the lack of multiple lines in org-tables very limiting and it would be good to have some escape sequences which would cause the lines to break when converted to HTML or some other format. Is there something like that for org tables, or would it be better to learn to override how org mode translates table cells into html?

I think there isn't an escape character. You can break out into html but it's kind of awkward: | apple | potato @@html:<br>@@ chips | | banana | cow | You can also make an [org mode macro](https://orgmode.org/manual/Macro-Replacement.html) which is slightly better: #+MACRO: br @@html:<br>@@ | apple | potato {{{br}}} chips | | banana | cow |
