Total noob here,
I made the horrible mistake of not choosing evil keybindings in the spacemacs setup and have been suffering ever since. Every tutorial on youtube keeps using SPC this SPC that.
I get that it's SPACEmacs but I don't wan't to switch to evil mode and give in to this.
Can someone help me out? thanks.

Don't worry. Open .spacemacs file (it should be in your root directory).
Find a line starting with:
dotspacemacs-editing-style .........
and change it to
dotspacemacs-editing-style 'vim
Save the file and restart Spac/Emacs.

Hey, Thanks!
I didn't want to switch to vim style but I guess that's the best option with spacemacs for now.

You could try Xah Fly Keys [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBHqytEXgzE&t=1s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBHqytEXgzE&t=1s) . It's not bad but some things I do often are harder for me with them. I also can't escape hjkl - I use it in browsers, terminals, even in LibreOffice ;D
But Evil is evil without the Esc key being close, the best on the home row. So, make sure to remap caps lock to escape. But leave esc to esc as well. And to get caps lock back, use simultaneosly pressing left shift and right shift or right shift and caps lock.
On Linux in KDE you can setup it out of the box just by clicking in Settings. In Gnome as well, but you have to install gnome tweaks I think.
On Mac you can map escape to caps lock nowadays. But for hyperkeys and lshift + rshift lock. capslock you need Karabiner.
On Windows, probably, AutoHotKey.

For brownie points, edit this file using vim

Instead of SPC-this SPC-that just do M-m-this M-m-that.
FluidDr1nker · 2022-07-27 00:38
C-[ also works as esc

you could have also just repeat the installation and choose different answers.
it's unclear btw, whether you want or don't want vim-style editing. the title suggests that you don't want, but the description suggests the opposite, then again suggests that you don't want it. I'm completely confused...

I want links to any video tutorials for Emacs style spacemacs
Fourstrokeperro · 2022-07-27 10:52
Is that the only difference? I'm finding it difficult to do things like code folding (without transient state)
