Emacs Org Mode: how to reduce line spacing?

For some reason, a few months ago the line spacing in Org Mode has increased. It's the line spacing between display lines, not merely between paragraphs or headings. The line spacing in my org-mode files has increased to 1.5 or 2 (just guessing). The variable "line-spacing" is nil. Actually setting it doesn't help. If I open a non-org-mode text file in emacs, the line spacing is fine. I discovered that the issue comes from org-indent-mode. But I also don't know why org-indent-mode would cause this. Does anyone have any ideas of what setting I can change? UPDATE: I was able to fix this by following the solution at the link provided below by JDRiverRun.

Can you replicate it with emacs -Q? You might need to identify something in your config that's messing with line spacing.

It doesn't happen with emacs -Q. Yeah, I'm looking throughout my config to see if there is anything that could have caused it. It \*seems\* like it began (months ago) when I updated packages.

I suggest to also check your theme file(s), there may be something the author changed that's affecting the spacing.

The font setting can impact line spacing; perhaps org-indent-mode is adding some font with a larger decender area? What happens if you manually force the buffer to something like text mode? (M-x text-mode RET or M-x fundamental-mode RET)

the org-mode syntax highlighting is gone, but the spacing still remains. Only goes away when I disable org-indent-mode

Line spacing can also be changed via text properties. Does the newline character have a line-spacing property?

I suggest that you backup your config and then test it all. Comment some section, restart emacs, see if it's solved. Comment some more, restart, see if it works... Keep going until you find the culprit, which then will be much easier to debug
