I've been using Emacs and Doom for a while now and a couple of months ago my fancy icons (which I *believe* are provided by the `all-the-icons` package) have disappeared. I just see a bunch of boxes with "F0??" codes in them.
I tried re-running the `all-the-icons-install-fonts` command, and according to Emacs it runs successfully. I also see the following under `$HOME/.local/share/fonts`:
```
all-the-icons.ttf
et-book-display-italic-old-style-figures.ttf
et-book-roman-old-style-figures.ttf
file-icons.ttf
material-design-icons.ttf
weathericons.ttf
et-book-bold-line-figures.ttf
et-book-roman-line-figures.ttf
et-book-semi-bold-old-style-figures.ttf
fontawesome.ttf
octicons.ttf
```
Also, Emacs no longer seems to be able to find any of the fonts under `$HOME/.local/share/fonts`. For example, ETBembo used to be my primary, non-coding font, but Emacs can no longer find that either.
I've also run 'fc-cache -f -v` about 100 times :-)
I tried some of the troubleshooting steps on https://github.com/domtronn/all-the-icons.el but those instructions seem to address issues with individual icons. I can't see **any** icons.

Don't use wsl. Switch to linux

:-) Oh if only I could choose which OS I use on my employer's systems.
Are you suggesting that I run Emacs on Linux in a VM?

You can run Emacs natively on windows. I do this on work computer. Use the portable version and install it in your home folder if you have restricted access. Download some command line tools through scoop, gow and you can have all the command line programs Emacs needs.

I have tried this in the past and it had lots of other issues. I would therefore prefer to use it with WSL.

When I get a moment I'll try and figure this out.
In the meantime try hitting up the [Doom Discord](https://discord.gg/qvGgnVx) server or their [Discourse](https://discourse.doomemacs.org/) forum.
I know there are other people there who use WSL2 and Doom Emacs.

While it's definitely possible, it's unbearably slow*.
Emacs assumes that the file system access is fast, which is not true in a Windows corporate environment with multiple antivirus and antimalware "features", which can not be disabled (magit is downright unusable, even on small trees, again, Git and Emacs assume fast fs access). Having emacs whitelisted is also not allowed by corporate.
Therefore, we're forced to use wsl to have a more-or-less decent Emacs experience on windows.
Note: I have a personal, very fast Windows gaming PC, without corporate restrictions and limitations, where Windows Emacs runs mostly fine.

Did you try calling "M-x all-the-icons-install-fonts" in emacs too?
tompurl · 2022-08-04 15:26
Yes I did, thank you. The fonts are there, Emacs just doesn't see them for some reason.
anymane · 2022-08-23 17:35
Did you ever find a solution? I have the same issue.
tompurl · 2022-08-26 19:26
No, im sorry i did not.

I might have found a (possibly partial) solution. I use X410, but possibly this would apply to other Xservers or Wslg.
All-the-icon fonts installed in windows can be shared with Linux as this describes.
[https://x410.dev/cookbook/wsl/sharing-windows-fonts-with-wsl/](https://x410.dev/cookbook/wsl/sharing-windows-fonts-with-wsl/)
I see some new fonts after I did this, though a status icon on the bottom left is still missing fonts (would have pasted a screenshot but don't know how).
