Meow rocks!

I am now sitting on the fence between the combination of god-mode, avy, multiple-cursors & expand-region as my current modal setup to just one package that satisfies 95% of my use-cases with those packages. It really is worth checking out. We have: 1. An easy to follow abstraction model for key-binding. 2. Four modes for interacting with buffers (Normal, Insert, Motion, Beacon) 3. A special command mode called "Keypad", which does a really good job de-chording your keybinds so you can enter your commands quickly. 4. "Multi-Cursor" editing with macros using that before-mentioned "beacon-mode" Like god-mode, it gels *really* well with the default Emacs conventions. If you want to try something cool that doesn't demand as much as Evil, check it out! https://i.redd.it/ttlxqok2h0c91.gif

The issue with meow is that, like many packages such as evil, it makes no sense as a global mode. For example, using specialized UIs such as elfeed or debbugs won't work. Things like this are best used only for select buffers. The ideas behind meow are interesting, and it does do a decent job, though.

Meow has a mode (motion mode) for those. Its automatically on for many modes that need it. You can set it up for modes that accidentally start in normal mode.

IIUC there still exists keybindings for motion mode that will interfere with other modes, which often have special single character keybindings.

I ran into this problem. If you specify motion mode for the conflict ahead of time, you can use the keypad to get at that binding. In my case it was "notmuch". ```lisp (dolist (state '((notmuch-hello-mode . motion) (notmuch-search-mode . motion) (notmuch-tree-mode . motion) (notmuch-show-mode . motion))) (add-to-list 'meow-mode-state-list state)) ``` After I set this up, while within notmuch I can press `SPC-j` or `SPC-k` and access keybinds that were otherwise "j" or "k". All other single-letter binds worked out of the box.

Good tip, thank you.

I love meow for being conceptionally so well conceived especially for being totally keyboard layout agnostic. Evil doesn't make sense if hjkl aren't adjacent and Evil doesn't make sense if you rebind the keys because you'll end up having to rebind everything and then its mnemonics make no sense again. With meow I was a first class citizen again, all layouts are the same Edit: the only thing that's bugging me is the "w" in its logo;) The overlapping line style is inconsistent it should just be an upside down small version of the "M" or a simplistic rounder thing like the "eo"
