Nice work but background transparency is kinda built into emacs. Emacs 29 has support for variables alpha-background and X resource alphaBackground that control the opacity of text background when running on a composited display. I don't know about blur thought.

You can get blurring with your compositor, it just needs transparent frames
But I've been looking for a way to blur Emacs on macOS and I don't think that exists just yet

Does this work on Windows/Mac?
Right now I'm using the `alpha-background` frame parameter, but it has no effect on windows even with the latest build (that I could find online, 29.0.50).

EDIT: nearly all of OP's comments are just asking for karma

I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/emacs.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

This does the job with Emacs 28:
`(set-frame-parameter (selected-frame) 'alpha '(100 . 90))`
First number is active frame, second number is inactive frame.

Also, OP stole this. See the other comments.

does this work on Mac?
danderzei · 2022-07-13 13:29
No idea. I use Linux.
