`C-h v show-paren-delay` shows that the default value is `0.125`.
But why is it `0.125`? What is the purpose of this delay?
I realize that I find it more comfortable to type Elisp code when its value is set to `0` and that makes me wonder if there is a reason for it to have `0.125` by default.

`delete-pair-blink-delay` is even better

Might be a performance thing from the past or for lisp with a lot of closing parentheses right next to each other.

Less distracting (than a shorter value) when you move around?
A default is just that - something that's expected (by Emacs dev) to be better for more people in more contexts (for whatever reason/"better"). Luckily, it's a user *option*.

It's a debounce timer to improve performance when you move point through several parens in nested lists. If you have `((((` and step one character at a time, it has to highlight four different times. The debounce allows Emacs to skip that work and only highlight once point comes to a stop for .125 seconds, which correlates with stopping moving around and sitting there reading the code -- which is when the highlight is most useful.

Mind explaining what this is for? The Emacs help buffer for it wasn't useful to me.

When you put point on opening parentheses an run `M-x delete-pair`, it will jump to closing parentheses, wait a second and delete that pair (or unwrap that balanced expression). This variable sets the waiting time.

I’ve always noticed this and now I’m reducing this value… lol thank you for showing me this!
